The National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM) is a community that focuses on giving education, welfare and protecting the autistic people in Malaysia. One of the branches is located in Alor Setar, Kedah promoting Early Intervention Program and Pre-Vocational.
It was formed by a group of parents and professionals back in 1986 that aims to give lifespan services for autism people through a variety of programmes that emphasize on skill acquisition and behavioral adjustments – evolving into results-oriented.Â
For those who did not know, autism is a complex developmental disability that usually appears during the first three years of life due to a neurological condition that impairs brain function. It occurs as many as one in 68 newborns. Because of how common this is, NASOM is committed to identifying and accepting people with autism, by protecting them, giving education and welfare, willing to spread awareness and become a useful resource for others who want to learn about this disorder.
The services that NASOM offers for autistic folks are Early Intervention Programme, Intensive Intervention Programme, Pre-Vocational Programme, Vocational Programme, Residential Programme, Assessment and Diagnosis, and Therapy Programme. These courses will ensure that autistic people can develop various life skills, be able to equip tools to do activities, have the opportunity to live independently, and have counseling and therapy.
