The National Elephant Conservation Centre (NECC)_123schools (2)

Do you know that, other than going to the local zoos, you could come to Lanchang, Pahang, to see elephants right in front of you?

The National Elephant Conservation Centre (NECC) is an animal protection centre where it protects and relocates elephants to its new shelter in Pahang due to their habitat being destroyed by infrastructural development. It aims to spread awareness about this endangered species as well as encourage research and further studies on the relocation and conservation of the animal. Â

So far, NECC has been able to successfully move more than 700 wild elephants to keep them from going extinct and causing damage to people’s homes and farms. NECC also functions as a treatment centre for injured elephants.

According to their website, your visit begins at 10.30 AM and ends at 4.15 PM. You will go through various activities with the elephants. The main things you can do are watch the adults and young elephants bathe in the river and feed them by hand. You can also watch the elephants graze in their exercise yard and do some self-observation. However, all river activities are subject to the river’s water level.

It is advisable for visitors to use the Nature Guide Service during their visit. RM50 is needed for each service (a maximum of 12 visitors per service).

It would take about two hours from Kuala Lumpur to reach here by using the East Coast Expressway (Lebuhraya Pantai Timur), where you have to take the Lanchang Junction exit. So, what are you waiting for? Come and visit the elephants today!

The food to be given to the elephants is prepared so that the visitors do not have to bring food outside.
